2021 PRIORITIES

5 HOTTEST COMMUNICATIONS ISSUES

Ready for 2020 to be over? Then let’s get going on plans for the year to come. At Tribe, we’re seeing a handful of issues rising to the top of the priority list — for our clients and in our benchmarking with other companies.

Here are five to consider moving to the top of your list of 2021 priorities:

BP: 2021 Priorities

1. INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY

We’re hearing a lot of discussion about how to demonstrate action
in I&D efforts, rather than just talking about its importance. Some
companies are establishing metrics to measure their progress in
terms of hiring and promotions. Others are giving a larger voice
to Employee Resource Groups or other identity-based groups
to help hold leadership accountable. And a growing number are
joining action-focused groups like CEO Action for Diversity and
Inclusion.

2. HUMAN CONNECTIONS

With so many office employees now working from home for
the foreseeable future, communications and culture teams are
keen to find ways to keep building those personal connections
that employees used to make just bumping into each other in the
office. We’re seeing tons of programs to create opportunities for
social fun with co-workers, from Zoom cocktail hours and coffee
chats to online trivia and escape rooms.

BP: 2021 Priorities

3. NON-DESK EMPLOYEES

Some essential workers are expressing resentment that they’ve
continued to report for their shifts while their office colleagues
are working from home. During the early days of the pandemic,
many companies were acknowledging the risk of essential workers
with increased hourly pay. For 2021, we recommend making
communications channels to reach non-desk employees a priority,
demonstrating that the company respects and values them.

4. EMPLOYEE MENTAL HEALTH

Working from home is a different experience for different types of employees — such as those with and without kids, introverts
and extroverts, those in family households and single people who
live alone. Some are thriving with remote work; others are feeling
isolated or overwhelmed, anxiety or depression. We’re seeing a
higher awareness of the need to support employees in their mental
health as well as their physical wellness.

5. INTRANET IMPROVEMENTS

Are you rethinking your intranet now that so many employees are
working from home? Perhaps it could be playing a larger role in
connecting employees, sharing relevant news and providing useful
tools a click’s reach away. 2021 might be the year you want to
refresh or reinvent your intranet, maybe with a SaaS solution or
with an update to your SharePoint site to make it a more useful
resource for your employees.
